Today I have a review about Doggie Lawn. This company dubs their product "your dog's backyard in a box." The can be found by visiting doggielawn.com .
Here is a little background information regarding Doggie Lawn:
"DoggieLawn was created when our founders, Zack and Natalie, wanted to find an easy solution to apartment living with dogs. Being not only convenient, but eco-friendly as well was a primary concern for them. Most pet potty products they found in the market, like synthetic grass or ”wee-wee pads”, are made of plastic and a huge burden on the environment because they do not break down in landfills and their synthetic contents take copious amounts of energy to produce and transport. Not to mention they also required a fair amount of daily maintenance with cleaning, washing, constantly replacing pads, etc.
As a simple and convenient solution, DoggieLawn was created - our subscription service is designed to minimize all these issues. DoggieLawn provides an easy way for owners to allow their dogs access to a bathroom, yet it doesn't require all the extra work that other pet potty boxes require (weekly washing of the artificial grass, emptying out the catch pan daily, etc) or have the smell that is often associated with them.
Also, our products are biodegradable and/or recyclable. Our grass is a living plant and as such, does its own tiny part in reducing global greenhouse gasses. :-)
So that’s why we at DoggieLawn thank you and your pup for using our products!

Getting started with Doggie Lawn is a quick and simple process. The first step is letting Doggie Lawn know the size of dog you have:
If you choose the "Petite Pooch", you will receive a much smaller sized Doggie Lawn (compared to the one that you will see in the pictures below for my "Full-Sized Fido") that weighs approximately 9 pounds. The size dimensions are 24" by 21".
Next, you get to choose the frequency of your Doggie Lawn delivery. You can choose a once a month option or every other week:
If you are expecting to receive "fake grass", some sort of plastic, or something that resembles astro turf - think again. Doggie Lawn sends you real living grass! Take a look at this screen shot to learn more about their grass:
"Our specially formulated, hydroponically grown grass is designed to work perfectly as an indoor dog potty, or outside on your balcony as a fresh potty patch. Our dog grass weighs slightly more than one half as much as standard sod for easy lifting and is "soil-less" which means it contains none of the dirt you find in sod sold in home improvement stores. Try it out and see for yourself how much you and your dog will love having their own convenient fresh patch of grass for bathroom breaks!"
This is a great idea, as it is the closest thing to going outside that I have seen on the market. ;) Now, I bet you are wondering how big the Doggie Lawn is, and what it looks like. I'm glad you asked, because I have pictures to share that answer your questions!
Almost 24 inches wide.
Almost 4 feet long.
This is a side shot of the tray that holds the grass (to show thickness & brand/name logo).
Here is the tray that holds the grass. I apologize for the glare.
Here is the grass fitting inside the tray.
Along with the grass and the tray, I received the following:
Doggie Lawn also included a brochure on how to train your dog to use the Doggie Lawn, and contains a bunch of troubleshooting tips/tricks, should you have any problems with your dog using the Doggie Lawn. If this brochure doesn't answer the question or problem you might be having with your dog using the Doggie Lawn, have no fear! Doggie Lawn offers COMPLIMENTARY phone training. Your dog will be relieving himself/herself on the Doggie Lawn in no time, and you will be relieved at how easy the process is. :)
Now that you know the purpose of the Doggie Lawn, seen what it looks like, and can get a rough idea of the size/dimensions, here are my pros and cons for this item (I'll start with the concerns first as to finish on a good note):
Concerns:
1. Depending on the size of your residence, the Doggie Lawn may be problematic in finding a suitable area to leave the tray and grass in one place without walking over or around it.2. FedEx had the grass listed as weighing 31 pounds when it was delivered. If you are disabled, elderly, or frail, lifting the grass could become quite heavy and cumbersome.
3. Having evaluated the tray, and seeing that the plastic does bend and give, I would be concerned about the tray wearing down after repeated use and possibly cracking - thus causing instability for your dog and creating a leakage problem from what has collected in the tray.
4. While setting up the grass in the tray, there were grass blades falling all over in the nearby area. For those that love to be neat and tidy, this may cause a bit of frustration.
5. It might be possible, if you have a very smart dog on your hands, that your dog will become dependent in using the Doggie Lawn instead of going outside to do his/her business and getting some fresh air/exercise.
Pros:
1. Convenience!
2. If your dog is sick, injured, or elderly, - Doggie Lawn would be a great alternative to taking your dog outside and possibly subjecting them to slipping or falling on stairs, due to bad weather, or unforseen conditions due to your dog's health.
3. If the owner is injured or under the weather, this also makes a good alternative for the human, as they can simply instruct the dog to use the Doggie Lawn until the owner is back on their feet. :)
4. Inclement weather! If you have had severe rains and don't want to go mud bogging, Doggie Lawn is a perfect solution. If you live in the Northeast, and have been snowed in - Doggie Lawn is a must have!
5. Puppy Training. Puppies need to go often and sometimes urgently. By using the Doggie Lawn, you can train your puppy when it is time to go to the restroom. Having Doggie Lawn nearby reduces the risk of accidents from not making it outside in time.
6. The closest representation of a natural lawn that I have seen.
7. Megan, from Doggie Lawn is very helpful and friendly to correspond with via emails. :)
Shadow and I would like to thank Megan and Doggie Lawn for their time and generosity in sending out these products to test and review!
Doggie Lawn did not pay me to write this review. They did send me free products to sample and review. This review is in no way biased, and all of the statements are 100% my own.
